Physical Therapy for Shoulder Pain Relief

Luke Gordon, DPT
A quick message from Dr. Luke Gordon, Spokane Valley’s leading PT, about dealing with shoulder pain:
This free report is intended for the person suffering from the torment of shoulder pain.
For many people, they’ve been dealing with their pain for several months, and often times even years. Along the way, most have tried dealing with their shoulder pain with generic advice, which has let them down.
Let’s take a look at some of this poor advice…
Often times, people with shoulder pain visit their doctor in search of pain relief, and they get the standard advice: “take it easy for a week or so and take some pain medications if your pain is too bad.”
If you’ve suffered with shoulder pain, you probably already know that this approach rarely (almost never) works. Resting your shoulder won’t typically fix what’s causing the pain, and pain medications only mask the pain, again without fixing the underlying cause.
What happens when rest and pain killers don’t fix the pain? For many, this is where they get introduced to the idea of injections or surgery. Or maybe they get introduced to this dangerous idea: that they just need to learn to live with the pain!
Poor advice often comes from Google and YouTube as well…if you do a quick search for “shoulder pain exercises” or “shoulder pain stretches”, you’ll discover a million and one resources, all designed to help you eliminate your pain quickly and easily.
There are a couple key problems with the free advice you’ll often find online: first, without truly understanding the root cause of your shoulder pain (such as a torn rotator cuff, tendonitis, torn cartilage, or bursitis), the “shoulder pain exercises” you attempt might just make your shoulder pain worse. This is because different exercises are used to treat types of pain…
For example, you might discover some shoulder stretches that help relieve shoulder pain caused by a pinched nerve in your neck or shoulder. However, if your pain is caused by something “degenerative” (like stenosis, DJD or DDD), these stretches will make you feel worse, and you’ll be dealing with even more shoulder pain. Not fun!
The other key problem with this advice is this: thinking that you can successfully eliminate your pain with exercises and stretches alone. While the proper shoulder exercises and stretches are an integral part to keeping your pain under control in the long-term, in the short-term, most people will require some “hands-on” treatment for optimal pain relief.
This is where many people will try chiropractic, massage therapy or even physical therapy treatment. And if they’re fortunate, they’ll experience some pain relief.
Unfortunately, most people will only experience temporary pain relief (for a variety of factors), and they’ll be stuck needing regular treatments.
So what really works for shoulder pain relief? Here’s the bottom line for eliminating your pain for good: you must work with a therapist who can help you figure out the ROOT CAUSE of your shoulder pain and who can then guide you through the process of treating the cause of your pain.
In this free report about 11 simple tips to help you eliminate shoulder pain, I’ve compiled my best tips and advice for starting to eliminate shoulder pain immediately. As you read the report, please keep in mind that not all 11 tips are likely to help your specific type of shoulder pain.
Rather, you’re likely to find 3-4 tips that really help you with your shoulder pain, while other people (with different types of shoulder pain) will benefit from other tips and advice.
So, if you’re ready to start the process of truly uncovering and treating the root cause of your shoulder pain, but you’re not sure if physical therapy is right for you, this free report is a great place for you to start. “Since my current job began, I began to have “popping sounds” and discomfort in my shoulders from the repetitive movements at my job. Chiropractic helped, but I needed more help with the muscles in my shoulders. Robert and Aram have been a huge help in helping me understand how to protect and strengthen my shoulders so that I can keep doing my job well. They also helped with creating custom insoles for my shoes to alleviate a long term foot/ankle problem. They really do a great job of getting to know you and caring for you like a close friend. Well done and thank you so very much.”
